Cat Lovers... this one's for you!
I just finished "The Cat Quilt", and will be adding it to the website before New Year's Day 2016. This is one of the 6 embroidered blocks that are featured in the quilt. It was a lot of fun to design, and I hope to start one for dog lovers soon.
I used the following Valdani 12 weight pearl cotton for the embroidery: color #18 for the lettering and O-217 for the cat. I used the 18 for the lettering to match my border fabric of the quilt. Use whatever color necessary to complement your chosen fabric. Cut the initial square 14", trimming it to 12 1/2" after the embroidery is completed and any transfer medium is removed. On the cat, I used a stem stitch for everything except the pupils, which are satin stitched. I used a chain stitch for the lettering.
Why do I initially cut the blocks larger? The edges of the fabric may fray while you are working on the project, or you may get some slight shrinkage or distortion once your embroidery is complete. Cutting the initial block larger insures that you will have the right size block when you are finished.
